The Kingdom of Bahrain is represented in the Muslim Council of Elders by His Excellency Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Council seeks to implement various important initiatives and projects in the field of promoting peace and dialogue among followers of different religions in general, and between Islam and Christianity in particular.

In 2019, His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, joined hands with His Holiness Pope Francis, Pontiff of the Catholic Church to co-sign the landmark Document on Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi. On the International Day to Combat Islamophobia: Muslim Council of Elders affirms that Islam is a religion of mercy, coexistence, and peace

Muslim Council of Elders calls on international organizations and media outlets to combat Islamophobia in order to curb the various transgressions that have occurred against Muslims in the west

The Council praises statements by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres who highlighted Islam’s tolerant values

Under the Chairmanship of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Muslim Council of Elders affirms that Islam is a religion of mercy and peace based on the values of tolerance and compassion. Its teachings have taught the world certain values that promote tolerance, coexistence, and human fraternity between all humanity regardless of their background.

The Muslim Council of Elders also indicates that Islamophobia has a negative effect on coexistence and integration. This goes with the spread of sedition as well as false information about Islamic teachings which in turns causes a feeling of resentment, hate, and racism towards Muslims.

On the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, the Muslim Council of Elders calls on international organizations and media outlets to combat Islamophobia in order to curb the various transgressions that have occurred against Muslims in the west in recent years. These transgressions have in turn affected the right to practice the Islamic faith for Muslims in the West, insulting religious symbols and continued discrimination on the basis of religion and background. The Council also praises the adoption of March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia and the support of the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres for the cause by affirming that the message of Islam, which came more than 1,400 years ago, was peace, sympathy, and compassion, and was an inspiration to people around the world. He also explained that the word “Islam” is derived from the same root as the word “peace”, pointing out that he saw for himself when he was High Commissioner for Refugees the generosity of Islamic countries. Which opened its doors to those who were forced to flee their homes, at a time when other countries closed their borders.
